Safety support for Swim on June 20th
Anyone available to assist with safety support for the RNLI swim on Thursday June 20th at 7pm, please contact Bernard Lynch on zero eight six, two two five seven zero five eight. We would appreciate help from RIBs, kayaks, SUPs etc. We have a great reputation for our safety flotilla and with a large entry expected again this year, all help is very welcome.

Oh wait, that’s an old one. That was 2013 when he did it in 33.22 and finished 18th – the youngest swimmer in the event. He knocked a bit off that time this year to 22.15. He must have done a bit of training for the past five years. And stretching.
Roll on 2019. Hopefully without any wind-enforced postponements.

Courtmacsherry Lifeboat Swim: July 21st

The 8th Annual Courtmacsherry Lifeboat Swim takes place at Blind Strand, near the picturesque fishing village of Courtmacsherry at 2.00pm on Saturday, July 21st. Courtmacsherry is a 45 minute drive from the Bandon Road roundabout. The swim will be well sign posted from the village. Please leave plenty of time for parking and registration. The safety briefing will take place at 1.30pm.
The swim course starts on the beach at Blind Strand and proceeds anti-clockwise around 2 markers.
Participants can choose between 1 lap(1.5K) or 2 laps(3K). Swimmers who elect to do 2 laps will run/walk a short distance on the beach prior to starting lap 2.
The Courtmacsherry volunteers will provide soup and sandwiches for all participants and volunteers. This year I am delighted to announce that IT@Cork Skillnet will continue to be our sponsors for the event. IT@Cork Skillnet will be providing the first 200 swimmers registered with a generous goody bag. Really nice gifts inside each one.
We have also secured the improved parking again this year.
Registration this year is again via Active – just click here – and closes on Thursday, July 19th at 11.00pm. Entry fee is €15 online. If the event maximum of 250 swimmers is not met, I will accept some entries on the day. On the day fee will be €25 and all proceeds go to the Courtmacsherry Lifeboat. Swim Ireland membership is not mandatory for this swim.
If you know of anyone who would like to volunteer to kayak, please have them contact me directly.

The forecast is looking good. Time to make sure you’re in. There are about 40 places left and they’re moving fast.
Get in now: enter now online on Active.
Don’t end up loitering on the beach shouting “anyone selling a ticket???” or with one of those “genuine swimmer seeks ticket” signs. They’re really sad. Get entered. Don’t be at the mercy of the touts. Especially since there are NO entries on the night and NO transferring places. Don’t be fooled 🙂
Entries close at 13.00 on MONDAY, JULY 2nd OR WHEN WE REACH 300 IF THAT’S SOONER.
Volunteers wanted for July 3rd
We need volunteers to help on the night of the swim with between 200-300 participants expected. We’ll need help with parking, stewards, beach cleaning, registration, gear loading and unloading, timing chip collection etc. We would appreciate if anyone not swimming in the event would give up some time to assist on the night. Please let Damian O’Neill or Bernard Lynch know if you are available or email myrtevilleswimmers@gmail.com.
Denis and Noreen are very clear on the number of good reasons why you should not volunteer if you’re not swimming. A big zero!

RNLI Myrtleville-Church Bay entry limit
A maximum of 300 entries are going to be accepted for the swim on July 3rd.
We are currently heading past 200 (lots of people were busy at the weekend 🙂 ) so while there’s still space, it will disappear as the weather improves. If you’re planning to swim – enter early.

We can’t promise there will be dolphins that evening, but they’re available as training partners in Myrtleville at the moment – as caught by Siobhan Russell yesterday.
The Myrtleville Showers barbershop quartet, led by Antoinette “Madonna” Wilson will also be performing on the evening. Not to be missed.

RNLI Swim – Going One Step Beyond
This year is going to be bigger and better than ever. If you’re going to be ready, get entered now on Active.
I can Absolutely say that we’re going One Step Beyond this year, with our evening swim at 7. Despite The Rise and Fall of the tide and The Madness of cold water swimming, we Keep Moving with our Wonderful event. Oui, Oui, Si, Si, Ja, Ja, Da, Da it is true – the other swims just Can’t Touch Us Now. We may be Mad (or) Not Mad but Myrtleville is definitely the place to be on July 3rd. Get your qualifying swims done – we don’t want any of The Dangermen taking a chance. As ever, there will be fun and spot prizes – but I don’t think we’ll be able to offer The Liberty of Norton Folgate as one of them.
I know, I’m really reaching with that last line, but seriously – you try to fit that into any ordinary sentence. It was hard enough to put in the other 11 albums.
